The Bridge Over the River Why? - Opening the Garden Railroad and Building a Truss Bridge 2024
Переглядів 3,8 тис.7 годин тому
Back on the garden railroad, and the new project, building the truss bridge over the "River Why?" on the north end of the railroad. AND finish the entire north end! First, we need to repair winter damage on the outdoor model railroad and design a proper truss bridge over the "river". There is no river, but sort of a river channel? Low area? Fun place to model? Yup. All that! The "Never Mine" wa...

Common Rail Wiring - Electricity for Model Railroads

Using common rail, even the most basic model railroad can benefit from block wiring. Even a DCC railroad has improved control by using some block wiring. When using multiple power packs (cab controls), if the power packs have independent power supplies, that is to say, every throttle is an independent power supply with an individual dedicated transformer and rectifier, the track output power ca...

Using Motion Sensors to Activate Lights, Sound, and Animation - Electricity for Model Railroads
Переглядів 2,1 тис.28 днів тому
We are using motion sensors to activate lights, sound, and animation on model railroads. These sensors are affordable and easy to use. Most "motion sensors" actually detect body heat using an infrared sensor. When a person approaches the sensor it passes its input voltage to the output. When the person moves away a timer starts and after 5 to 180 seconds the power switches off. And they cost ab...

Dale: Thanks so much for this detailed information, but you did not touch on standard gauge and narrow gauge with the same scale, with each having a different gauge. Since 1987, I model G scale at 22.5 to 1, both SG and NG, much of it running on dual gauge track. Hyce did a video of my layout recently and you can see the size difference between NG and SG sitting side by side. Of course my NG is 1 and 3/4" gauge, meter gauge depicting 3 feet between the rails and the SG is 2.5" depicting 4' 8 1/2" between the rails. I refer my SG as Gauge 3 equipment. I think you should have some F standard gauge on your layout so that folks can see the difference between NG and SG trains of the same scale. Most folks are so use to looking at HO models, that when they see my G scale NG equipment, they think it is so big, until I bring out the UP Big Boy, at almost 6 feet long and sit it next to a NG Rio Grande C16! It is a real eye opening experience for them! Thanks so much for all you do for the model railroad hobby! Barry Bogs MMR

I use the aluminum foil technique for chrome myself. I'll suggest another product that works extremely well which is "Barkeepers Friend." It is a dry powder and comes in a can like Ajax and Comet household cleaners. I give the parts and even my cymbals a bath and use a toothbrush or cotton wash cloth. It will clean and polish chrome, brass, bronze, copper and stainless surfaces. Rinse then dry and I think you'll be impressed with the results.

At 3:46 that is the Triang OO scale HO gauge operating model of the 1829 condition of Stephenson's Rocket as built for the Rainhill trials. Triang , now renamed as Hornby after Hornby collapsed in 1964, has recently made a much more accurate Rocket model and rolling stock. Impressive to look at but the DCC ready wiring to the tender make it very delicate. Hornby plan to release a model of Stephenson's earlier Locomotion number one of 1825, in the next year. The has been after the sales success of these early models , like the 1838 Lion that has been made by both Hornby and Rapido. Rapido in Titfield Thunderbolt movie form.

Do the railroads have any insurance liability for not keeping people clear of the tracks? I am sure that if they faced some financial penalty they would provide stewards, and at the end of the day these people are trespassers on railroad property. Unfortunately there are some pretty twisted people out there!
